Machu Picchu

Amazing, is the only word to describe this place and it is even more amazing that it was only found in 1911. Nowadays it certainly is Peru's major tourist attraction which was evident in the mile long queues for the buses to take you there from the village. Despite the ever-present chaos that is Latin-America, it all sorts itself out and once there the mega-crowds lose themselves amongst the ruins. We climbed and climbed and tried to capture the vistas but it is really impossible to describe this place - you had to be there.

Archeologists are still uncovering it's secrets. This team carefully brushed and sieved a grid and found what looked like pottery.

At the cafe, waiting for the bus back to the village

Once there, another celebration and parade in the square, this time for 'Flag Day' Peru's equivalence to Anzac Day.

We even found a lizard - Ochoa Whorltail Iguana

I'm loving Peru Rail, the station cafe waiting for our train back to Cusco.

...and fitting shot to end this day, taken from the train.
