Pamper Day
Our Sunday in Arequipa was spent visiting the Plaza de Amas, enjoying Peruvian fare at its finest and enjoying our hotel's Turkish baths.

Santa Catalina Convent
This convent is located opposite our hotel, so we decided to have a look, not really knowing what to expect but what we found blew us away.

It was built in 1579. The over 20,000-square-meter monastery was built predominantly in the Mudéjar style, and is characterized by its vividly painted walls. There are approximately 20 nuns currently living in the northern corner of the complex; the rest of the monastery is open to the public. The pictures tell the story.....
For Steve, take note - a 16th century pizza oven !
A section showing how the building has been affected by earthquakes over time.
Arequipa
Arequipa is the colonial-era capital of Peru’s Arequipa Region. Framed by 3 volcanoes, it's filled with baroque buildings constructed from sillar, a white volcanic stone. Its historic center is anchored by the Plaza de Armas, a stately main square flanked on its north by the 17th-century neoclassical Basilica Cathedral, which houses a museum displaying religious objects and artwork.

Our accommodation is right in the middle of the historic centre and we are able to walk to it all.

A tour of our beautiful hotel 'La Hosteria'
Our room door from the inside. Apparently this establishment has a Turkish bath, which we've booked for every night of our stay here.
The 'tree' trunks of the Bougainvillea growing all over the hotel
Now THIS is what I call a Juliette balcony
